Polyeco was awarded the environmentally sound management of PCBs and other POPs in Costa Rica. The project is funded by the Global Environmental Facility and is being jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and the Ministry of Environment and Energy. PCB contaminated oils and electrical equipment shall be collected, packaged and exported for dismantling and incineration in France. The waste is owned by companies of the national electricity sector. In addition to the PCB waste, the project includes the incineration of other POP persticides which are owned by the Ministry of Health. The project shall contribute to the fulfillment of the country’s targets in the context of the Stockholm Convention.
