Polyeco Group has successfully completed four asbestos removal and waste management projects in the Pacific Region. The projects were awarded through international tendering to Polyeco Group by Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in 2016 within the framework of PacWaste (Pacific Hazardous Waste) project funded by the European Union. SPREP is an intergovernmental organization charged with promoting cooperation amongst the Pacific island countries and territories, to protect and improve their environment and ensure sustainable development.
The projects took place on various public sites in the Cook Islands, Nauru, Vanuatu and the Kingdom of Tonga including asbestos removal works at facilities of high priority on the protection of public health such as schools and hospitals. The projects include removal and replacement of asbestos materials (friable and non-friable), packaging, decontamination, transport, storage, disposal and training in accordance with international best practice. Asbestos waste disposal was conducted in licensed landfills.
