Polyeco Gulf has successfully organized a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) COURSE for 35 industry executives from the region of Sohar.
The HAZWOPER TRAINING COURSE was specifically designed for HSE Managers, Environmental Managers and Experienced Environmental Engineers, involved in clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances and waste or uncontrolled hazardous waste dump sites. The aim of the course was to familiarize them with the main health and safety principles and to provide a thorough overview of how to perform effectively when managing hazardous waste. The course was Free of Charge and in line with US OSHA requirements.
The training course was held from April 22 to April 25, at the SOHAR BEACH HOTEL in OMAN and although it was initially limited to 25 participants the final attendees reached 35. Representatives from 19 industrial companies mainly from Sohar’s industrial hub, and other regions, such as ORPIC, Oil Tanking Terminals, Oman Clorin, Oman Dry Dock LLC and Asian Paints, as well as public organizations and hospitals, were trained on Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
Trainer on behalf of Polyeco Gulf was Mrs. Eleni Malliarou, Hazardous Waste Management Expert and speakers Mr. Manolis Dimitrakakis, Hazardous Waste Management Expert and Mr. Mahmoud Abd-El Salam, Hazardous Waste Operation Manager.
The main goal of the training was to familiarize participants with the safety training requirements for workers likely to be exposed to hazardous waste as defined by OSHA 1910.120 and train them on Regulations, Safety Principles, Communications of Hazards, Planning & Organization, Haz ID, Toxicology, Ionizing, Respiratory, Meters and Instrumentation, Chemical Protective, Heat Stress, Medical Surveillance, Fire Protection, Confined Space, Handling Drums, Sampling & Packaging, Decontamination, Emergency, Packaging in accordance to IMDG/ADR regulations and Hazardous waste export in compliance with the Basel Convention.
