Lebanon Nearshore & Onshore Recovery Operations

Spill Management, Personnel & Equipment

During the summer of 2006 an attack of the Israeli air-force destroyed the fuel tanks of a power plant, located 30km south of Beirut. As a result, approximately 15.000 tons of HFO was spilled into the sea, causing a major ecological disaster and polluting 120km of the Lebanese coastline.

Equipment and personnel were deployed to the incident and a full clean-up was made of the coast. The length of polluted coastline necessitated a thorough and strategic spill management plan to efficiently and effectively address the vast area affected.
